An Occasion to Celebrate!

What occasion, you may ask? Why, any and all! As I’ve said publicly, any excuse to celebrate is a good one!

Personally, I shall be celebrating the good news about the Marvellous, primarily. As a distant second, my victory over Feducci in the Black Ribbon Society! If you’re stopping by, tell us why you are celebrating — and if you have no reason of your own, feel free to borrow one of mine!

All are welcome at these salons, regardless of your sex, race, creed, or station in life. All I ask is that you behave civilly — and if you cannot or will not, don’t begrudge us the fun of throwing you out the front door! If you are new to our revels here, it may be a few moments until you appear here. Be patient, all will be well and all manner of thing shall be well, as our Masters are wont to say.

Let the revels begin!

I have some tea here, and bandages. Non-Tomb Colonies bandages, mind you. Do you need any?

    • September 6, 2010 at 6:18 pm

We could actually do with a spot of tending to, dear lady. Our recent expedition to the Flowstone Forest has left us somewhat the worse for wear. We have yet to track down that d-mned sanitorium amid it.

      • cl0ckw0rks said,

I shall take care of it at once, my dear friend.

        • September 6, 2010 at 6:54 pm

Ah, that’s much better! Your hospitality is boundless Merri. We’ll be returning to Venderbight in a few days better prepared for the trek.

*smiles broadly* None at all, really. Feducci hardly landed a blow worth worrying about. But thank you for the courtesy!

Don’t forget, I share my good news with yours! I, too, can come a step closer to knowing what to offer the thief-king of the Flit who has everything — and can rest easy knowing I shan’t lose your company forever to that bandaged brute and his coterie of duellists.

I might also celebrate a fine day for music and dancing. How delightful it’s all been!

It would simply not be a salon without you, darling. Perhaps the Commodore will play us a tango for later, so we might dance?

    • September 6, 2010 at 6:04 pm

The tango is an art-form in the hands of the pair of you. We’ll see what we can do for the evening’s show!

[The Commodore arrives at the townhouse by carriage and is shown in with a distinctive if rather shoddily dressed Angel Israfil on his arm]

Greetings, esteemed and delicious friends! We haven’t been round this parlor in far too long what with business and such. There’s a lady here we’d like you all to meet, a fresh face in the city. May we present… miss Angel Israfil

    • cl0ckw0rks said,

      September 6, 2010 at 6:04 pm

Welcome to you both! Any friend of the Commodore’s is always welcome in my home!

      • September 6, 2010 at 6:07 pm

Ah! Angel, this is Merri The lady of the household. A long time friend of ours and a magnificent lady to boot. Her influence in high society is nigh unparalleled!

“It’s Merri. Merriwether Fawkes, I’m pleased to meet you. Have you been here in the Neath long?”

“Thank you… am sorry, but was not told your name.”

      • Angel Israfil said,

        • cl0ckw0rks said,

          September 6, 2010 at 6:18 pm

*looks at her guest with kind compassion* “Well, you’ve picked a good night to be here. We should have new friends for you before the night is through! Would you care for wine? Tea? Something stronger? And tell us if you have aught to celebrate!”

          • September 6, 2010 at 6:25 pm

Indeed, Feducci is not easily bested. Perhaps now he’ll view you more as a comrade than a member of his society. Your dueling days might be over!

        • September 6, 2010 at 6:19 pm

You’re doing fine with our english, lass. Relax and enjoy. You’re among friends, you have our word!

Ah, Splendid stuff and some of @mr_wines finest. Have you heard any gossip about his latest creation? Its laboratories are sealed tightly, but someone must know what it’s up to!

              • cl0ckw0rks said,

                September 6, 2010 at 7:03 pm

I had not, my dear. Only what you have said about it publicly. Do you suppose it is another vintage of wine? Or more absinthe?

                • September 6, 2010 at 7:16 pm

[whispers] they say in some circles that folk are being snatched from veilgarden to undergo testing of some sort. Whatever it is, it sounds much more potent than a simple pleasure beverage. @Mr_wines has declined public interview so far, so our influence isn’t much use.

        • Angel Israfil said,

          September 6, 2010 at 6:22 pm

[nods at Commodore and Merri] wine, da. yes, please. i… have nothing to celebrate. but was told i could help you celebrate your killing earlier today. congratulations.

“Ah, well. Yes. I suppose there’s no sense in being coy about it, is there.” *hands Angel a glass* “But let’s phrase it more politely, just the same. To my victory, then?”

            *lifts glass in toast*

To a splendid and flawless victory, indeed! They say there were only pieces left of him! Mightily impressive.

*laughs* Well, there are always only pieces of him left, are there not? But thank you, I rank it as an accomplishment and cannot even think of it as properly “killing” him, for he does not die.

To your show tonight, dear Commodore! What shall we be hearing, this evening?

            • September 6, 2010 at 7:23 pm

WE’ve no small assortment of new discoveries to share. Some nights we stick to the classics, but that will not be what you hear tonight.

We may pull in one or two that the lovely scarlet played earlier today as well!

        • Angel Israfil said,

Some days I do believe it — Londoners speak of the Bazaar that way, you know. The gentleman call it ‘she’ and the ladies ‘he.’ Some say it’s the head of a god.

        • September 6, 2010 at 6:46 pm

[presses a glass of Greyfields into Angel’s hands]

Here you are, m’lady. Fine mushroom wine – Pride o’ the Neath and top-shelf stuff from Merri’s copious cellar to boot. You’ll grow to love it, we’re sure!

            September 6, 2010 at 6:55 pm

[exchanges full glass for the empty one in hand]

blagodarya, Commodore. Thank you. it is… how it is said, an `acquired taste,’ no?

            • September 6, 2010 at 7:04 pm

One of many you’ll acquire, in the Fifth City. Not all of them fungus-related either [winks]

      • September 6, 2010 at 6:53 pm

“Hello,” he says gently, aware that Angel may be feeling overwhelmed already by the guests. “My name is Gabriel.”

        • Angel Israfil said,

          September 6, 2010 at 6:59 pm

….Gabriel…. [places emphasis on the last syllable thoughtfully] i think your name is as weighty as mine. hello Gabriel.

        • cl0ckw0rks said,

          September 6, 2010 at 7:01 pm

“You are ever quiet, Mr. Morgan. I had no idea you were here.” Merri dimples. “What will you drink this evening? Wine? Or a stronger spirit? I do have some brandy about, I think.”

          • September 6, 2010 at 7:09 pm

“I am sometimes too quiet for my own good, I think!” he says, amused. “Some brandy would be lovely. I have had too many dinners with devils lately with ‘creative’ usages of fungus to be intrigued by mushroom wine — even the especially good vintages — just at the moment.”

            • cl0ckw0rks said,

              September 6, 2010 at 7:15 pm

She smiles, shakes her head ruefully, but pours the snifter for him nonetheless. “Well, you’re entirely too sophisticated to be taken in by Hell, so I shan’t worry about you. Drink freely, my friend. And enjoy!”

              • September 6, 2010 at 7:23 pm

He accepts it gratefully. “I have no desire to give my soul away, however many gifts and compliments they pour on me. I think I am merely interested in seeing how hard they will try before I am tired of them, or they give up and move on to easier quarry.”

                • cl0ckw0rks said,

                  September 6, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Merri laughs. “I knew there were many reasons to like you.”

          • Angel Israfil said,

            September 6, 2010 at 7:17 pm

you… also know devils? [looks at him with even greater interest] you and Commodore… consort to them? with them, I mean?

            • September 6, 2010 at 7:24 pm

There are many devils in the city. They will compliment you, give you gifts, invite you to things. They want your soul, of course. But you needn’t give it to them.

Still, sometimes their parties and outings are interesting.

              • Angel Israfil said,

                September 6, 2010 at 7:29 pm

they have parties? [this seems astonishing] like people do?

[coughs, voice raspier after] somehow, i did not expect this…

                • September 6, 2010 at 7:40 pm

“Yes. They behave much like people here, though it is, I believe, purely a ruse to charm the humans into giving away their souls.”

He cocks his head slightly, a look of concern crossing over his face. “Would you, perhaps, rather have some hot tea with honey and lemon, for your cough, and your voice?”

                  • Angel Israfil said,

                    September 6, 2010 at 7:49 pm

[looks at him cautiously, then relaxes. snugs muffler tighter about neck, unconsciously]

it would not help, but i thank you for concern. i… am enjoying the wine. you have been here for some time, da? in the Neath?

                    • September 6, 2010 at 8:01 pm

[There comes another arrival; Lamont, if that is his name, clad in a fine dusky suit and a rather extraordinary hat – beady eyes looking about in a rapid flickering, fangs hanging over the edge. Around one arm, two black ribbons are wrapped]

A congratulations to you, my dear. Forgive me if I’m late… you did wonderfully, Merri.

    • September 6, 2010 at 6:38 pm

      Lamont!

How have you been lad? We haven’t crossed paths in sometime now. Likely due to our conspicuous absence from Merri’s lovely parlor .

    • cl0ckw0rks said,

      September 6, 2010 at 6:40 pm

Likely indeed! Thank you, Lamont, and thank you again for standing second for me earlier today. *hands him a glass of ’82*

    • September 6, 2010 at 6:43 pm

Gabriel smiles one-sided, a wry look, and adjusts one sleeve to show the two ribbons he has wound around his forearm, a few inches above the wrist. “And we who deal death deal it in fine company,” he murmurs.

    • curious_fellow said,

Ah, Commodore! I’ve been whiling away the hours at Court, trying to push some modicum of… debating skills and philosophy through the heads of the couriers there, but I’m afraid that it never seems to stick. Still, my admirers seem to be aplenty, and their gifts keep coming…

And it was my pleasure, Merri. Although I admit, had you lost, it would have been more nightmare than pleasure.

I have a gift for you in thanks, but – perhaps it’s best shared after the festivities.

      • cl0ckw0rks said,

He coughs politely, “A bottle of Black Wing Absinthe.”

      • September 6, 2010 at 7:10 pm

The folk at the Empress’ court are definitely the type to smile and stare blankly when your chosen verbiage contains too many syllables. A few of the Summerset alumni crowd crowd can be found among them but mostly they’re water to the University’s oil.

We know you posess the skills to rise among them anyway, and the attempt at raising the bar is admirable. There’s at least one distinguished lady with a barbed wit in attendance there that we’re sure you’ll like. [grins wide and toothy]

*dressed with more style than is his wont, if not less care — instead of a carefully patched tweed jacket, an immaculate frock coat, and a top hat of midnight blue; he arrives, if not on Henrik’s arm, rather close to it*

I have heard the news of your success, and been gladdened by it; I hope that your future inquiries will be met with further good fortune or, at least, further opportunities to secure fortune in the purposeful application of skill.

    • Henrik Paulsen said,

*Henrik endeavours to seem less Theodor’s accompaniment than his shadow; he is dressed darkly, unobtrusively, in shoes that make scarcely a sound on the floor. unfortunately, he is also well over six feet tall and broad in the shoulder, and he cannot hide behind Theodor any more than an oak tree could hide behind a geranium*

      • September 6, 2010 at 7:28 pm

Gabriel has already been accused of stealth once this evening, in his similarly silent shoes and midnight waistcoat with the rest in black shadow, but he does make the attempt not to blend in with the wallpaper. “Hello, Henrik. How are you doing this evening?”

        • Henrik Paulsen said,

          September 6, 2010 at 7:30 pm

“Gabriel,” he answers, with a smile that deepens the lines about his eyes. “Have we progressed to Christian names already?”

          • September 6, 2010 at 7:37 pm

“Ah, well, if it is presumptuous of me, then I will be presumptuous.” He smiles, amused, but quite warm. “It is, I think, what friends should do. Call one another by their proper names, that is.”

            • Henrik Paulsen said,

              September 6, 2010 at 7:45 pm

“I do not remark on it from offense, but from pleasure; it pleases me to have so many familiar friends.” If it is presumptuous for him to lay a fond hand on Gabriel’s wrist, then he will be presumptuous, as well. “Since you ask, I am well, and better for being welcomed warmly — but ever so tired! Theodor asked me to escort him to his debut, and I could not have imagined refusing … but I would have remedied this defect in my faculties, had I recalled how exhausting high society is.”

              • September 6, 2010 at 7:55 pm

“I am very glad to find you well.” He rests his other hand atop Henrik’s, still smiling. “Ah, society is always very exhausting, until one grows accustomed to it, and then it is still exhausting, but you begin to find it normal… Which I am not sure is wise. Still, I am very glad you accompanied him. I worry for him a bit, in that nest of vipers, who nearly never mean what they say, or say what they mean.

“Perhaps you should sit?” He swaps the ‘you’ for the ‘we’ he had begun to say out of politeness, but leaves the offer in his voice. “I am sure the debut required nothing but standing, as well.”

                • Henrik Paulsen said,

                  September 6, 2010 at 8:01 pm

“Very well; I cannot refuse sound advice.” He extricates his hand with as much grace as he can muster, then locates a seat in an unobtrusive corner. For all he has Merri’s welcome, he would not cast any unwelcome shadows on her triumph.

                  • September 6, 2010 at 8:23 pm

[My sentence came out very odd, I realize, in rereading it – I meant to say that he was going to say ‘we’ but changed it to ‘you’ to avoid – yet more presumptuousness!]

The offer eases him; he does not yet know how familiar he ought to be with a man to whom he has confessed his worst secrets over mushroom wine, and above all things Henrik values clarity of cues. He shifts to make room for a second person in his unobtrusive corner. “I’d be glad of it — sit with me, my dear, and tell me what’s eased your loneliness.”

Oh, you did make it, I’m so glad! *kisses Theodor’s cheek* And we heard you were the very darling of the Ambassador’s Ball! I hadn’t a moment’s doubt — your brilliance will shine, regardless of setting!

    • cl0ckw0rks said,

And hello, Henrik. *she’d like to kiss his cheek too, but she can’t reach it unless he bends a little* I’m glad you decided to come. What are you drinking this evening?

Theodor? May we fetch you some refreshment?

      • Henrik Paulsen said,

Wine it is, then. Do try to smile, Henrik. *hands him a glass* This is a celebration, not a funeral. I promise you, you are welcome here.

*he smiles, then, and leans down to kiss her cheek — it’s a rash, impulsive sort of gesture, but it feels correct* I’m glad of your welcome.

*smiles* Thank you. You’ll always have it. I’m afraid we’ve only one new face here so far this evening, but do greet… her. *nods* Or so the Commodore says, it’s rather difficult to tell.

Almost nothing, I’m afraid. The name given was Angel Israfil. Those are Fourth City garments being worn. There’s something wrong with the voice, it’s been damaged at some point. `She’ seems very shy of company, but is bearing up well enough.

Of course it is, I had hoped you would find time to drop by. *pours his tea, hands him cup and saucer* So you are celebrating your successful entrance into society this evening! I’m so pleased. I’m rather more in a mood to celebrate the news of the Marvellous, personally. Had you heard?

I had, indeed, among the same cats who were whispering to one another of Carrywell in Venderbight — something of the house on Wolfstack Docks, guarded by the special constables, and Parabola. If you can find the answers, and progress, you seek there … *hesitates to ask* Is that where you think your path will take you next? Behind the mirror?

I don’t know, Theodor. Honestly, I do not. For now, I must gather the skills I might need for whatever might come next — the main reason I continued with the Black Ribbon, mind you. If I need the skills of a fearsome duelist, then those I shall have ‘ere I’m through.

Perhaps we should try a duel sometime when neither of us is overly equipped and see how it goes? It should be amusing, if you don’t throw me into another stack of crates, that is!

Gabriel smiles at his clothing, thinking of Theodor’s worries regarding his entrance to society, and yet how well he manages it albeit with shyness — though shyness is, in itself, charming. “Good evening, Theodor. How was the ball?”

      • Theodor said,

        September 6, 2010 at 7:51 pm

“Good evening,” he returns with a nod that more resembles a bow. “The ball was, I confess, more enjoyable than I would have credited a ball to be. I ascertained a number of secrets in conversation with the guests, conversation that ranged over a diversity of subjects, and … I also had Henrik’s support and company, for which I am indebted to him.”

        • September 6, 2010 at 8:06 pm

I am so very glad. Society can be – tiresome, but it has its enjoyable moments. I know Henrik has been to court, and Narciso is quite the social butterfly, so I would trust them to guide you well.

There are philosophers and scholars at court that I rather enjoyed speaking to, wandering the gardens. I think perhaps you will enjoy it, too, whenever you find yourself at court.

          • Theodor said,

            September 6, 2010 at 8:21 pm

Perhaps I would. I will, at times, still stop in the Square of Lofty Words — and though I believe they speak nothing but elaborate and self-important sophistry there, it enlivens me to be engaged in the debate, even if I must commandeer a hansom cab for the purpose. *a thin smile* What did you discuss?

            • September 6, 2010 at 8:27 pm

Some spoke of Plato — they are very fond of Plato — and his contemporaries. There were others in the gardens fond of the arts, music, and poetry, and others still who would speak quietly of politics.

I will say they are all fond of the Honey, but despite my many invitations to honey-dream, none were insistent about it and were actually quite polite when I would decline.

              • Theodor said,

                September 6, 2010 at 8:46 pm

I myself will avoid honey-dreams, when I can — since we have approached the subject of Plato, I will say I have wondered on the name Prisoner’s Honey, and whether it is not an indication that those who indulge in it have chosen to chain themselves in this cave and attend shadows. I would prefer to remain in the light, would prefer to attend true forms …

*but that calls to mind the Mirror Marches, and the proposed connection between honey and mirrors — and he blinks away the impression of the sun filtered through a jungle canopy*

… But … I may not be lost entirely at court, if there are discussions of Plato to be had.

                • September 6, 2010 at 9:01 pm

“They tell me the Honey makes them think along new avenues of thought, particularly when shared with another. I did not try it; if I were to dream with Honey, I would prefer it to be with someone I trusted well.”

He looks into the distance for a moment and says quietly, “There is a man at court, that Henrik and I both met, know as the Beauty. Perhaps Henrik has mentioned him… He is worth the trouble of getting to know.”

Not to Hell, no. I do not know of anyone who has been. The devils keep a home in the city, the Brass Embassy. There, I have been. They have balls, dances. On a floor that will blister the feet, if you do not wear the proper shoes.

I only know one man who has gone to Hell alive. A mendicant of my association, who took up a study of Hell. He acquired a copy of the Moloch Street Station schedule and sought to steal aboard to visit Hell itself.

I don’t expect to ever see him again.

        • September 6, 2010 at 8:22 pm

  16. September 6, 2010 at 8:53 pm

Gabriel settles himself in the corner; he is thin and has no trouble finding room, and does not mind the occasional bumped elbow with Henrik. “I confess, I was reluctant to come tonight, because I could not summon the appropriately celebratory mood, but she defeated Feducci, and…” He twitches his sleeve to show Henrik the two ribbons around his forearm. “we are marked by the things we achieve, even if it is that truly her celebratory mood has to do with the Marvelous and not the duel.”

He takes a sip of his brandy, thoughtfully, and says, partly into the glass, “I wondered if, after we said so much to one another the other night, you might find it far more comfortable to avoid me than to speak to me. There is an awkwardness some people find in sharing truth, that drives them apart sometimes, out of fear of judgment or shame.”

He looks up, meeting Henrik’s eyes. “I am glad to see this is not the case, now. And that did wonders for my mood.”

    • Henrik Paulsen said,

      September 6, 2010 at 9:00 pm

“I grow too familiar, too quickly; it is one of many failings,” he answers, with a shrug that sets their elbows knocking again. “Will you believe that I was lightened, as well, by the confidences that you consented to share with me? Had I felt, in past moments of despair” and his eyes linger on the black ribbons on Gabriel’s arm, but he passes over them without comment “that I could take another so completely and artlessly into my confidence, then I might be a more light-hearted man even now.”

All at once, they slip into place — Henrik’s arm resting precisely so on the seat, his shoulder angled comfortably to Gabriel’s; it feels as though they have locked neatly as puzzle pieces. “What is it that you pursue here, if I may enquire? Merriwether pursues the Marvellous; Theodor and I seek answers for my brother’s death, Mr Wilsford and Ms Yujao hunt the Vake … and yourself?”

      • September 6, 2010 at 9:20 pm

“I cannot say, at least with this, that your propensity for familiarity is a failing. There is much good in being able to trust, though trust is so hard to come by in this place, and to share a burden — it is like lancing a wound. And in you, I think, it was one that very badly needed lancing.”

Gabriel is comforted by the way they fit together — bones and angles and bodies — and by the fact that Henrik is /alive/, most importantly.

He takes a breath, having never spoken of it before. “I heard of a great treasure, and thought I might have it for myself. It was something of a childish ambition, but I was young and had always been good at theft.” His mouth quirks and he laughs. “Now I question my ambition, because I find other things more important to me, but perhaps I should see this thing through.”

        • Henrik Paulsen said,

          September 6, 2010 at 9:26 pm

He laughs in return, and it’s a sudden and unreserved laugh that makes his shoulders shake. “You must teach me your skill! I am so inept as a thief, so naturally disinclined to the profession, that I was quickly snapped up by the constables. It is in no way an unworthy skill, and those of a revolutionary bent even whisper that there is a levelling quality to a good theft — it distributes all wealth more evenly.”

          • September 6, 2010 at 9:37 pm

“Oh, dear,” he says, very amused at the mental image of Henrik’s botched theft. He slips his hand into Henrik’s, feeling emboldened by the freedom of Henrik’s laughter. “It is an art, but fortunately one that can be taught. I would not mind at all. Now that you have found your way into the Flit, and most other parts of the city, it should not be very difficult to find easy marks.”

Gabriel smiles, a flash of teeth that is a bit predatory. “Those who indulge in alcohol as much as we did the other night are quite easy marks. Perhaps we will have more than one reason to visit Veilgarden. Those, too, who stumble out of the honey dens have their wits still addled and would hardly notice if you walked up to them and stole from them in plain view.”

Henrik appears neither put off nor emboldened by the intimacy of the contact. Indeed, his absorption in their conversation suggests that he has scarcely attributed any significance to it.

“I shouldn’t like to be a common pickpocket,” he exclaims once Gabriel has finished, and then hastens to add, “Although I respect the work of the pickpocket; certainly, I have played … ground-man? … for the Fisher Kings, and they are merely the most enterprising of pickpockets — rather, I should like to engage in more overtly political thefts. Of late, I have had frequent cause to visit the glim assayer’s office, and I have been proud to be … oh, what is the colourful metaphor? The rod in the gears of industry, or something of that sort.”

“Ah, we should talk about this, then. Perhaps on the morrow, when you have had rest from being Theodor’s guardian. You can tell me more of your goals, and I can think of how best to assist you…”

Sweeping into the room with a flourish, Scarlet smiles brightly, descending upon the room with a twinkling gaze. She is clad in a blood-red velvet dress. It is cut to flatter, and flatter it does, in a way that is just shy of scandalous.

“Merri!” She slides up to the woman and places a kiss on her cheek. “Congratulations, my dear. Not that I was concerned at all. Many of us here are familiar with your strength.”

But she grins and presses a glass of wine into Scarlet’s hands. “I’m just so happy you are here, no matter where you’ve been. Lamont was here awhile ago, I wonder if he’s left for the night?”

She pauses – glass hovering before her crimson mouth – when Merri mentions Lamont, and her eyes dart across the room before taking a sip. “Oh indeed? And I believe I see Mr. Paulsen, Narciso, and Mr. Gylden as well. You simply have everyone here, my dear.

They are wearing a simpler tweed jacket this time, not as fancy, but better fitting. “I had a little trouble last night, so if I may ask for it, I would please like to know if you have a sip of peach brandy on hand? Or a strong cup of tea, thank-you.” and a brighter grin. “Again I am at a loss to who some of you are, though I am a little better off than at the last salon.” Another look around the room and is amused at seeing a wo-er-ma-er-yes with a muffler. “Also I must say commendations to Ms. Fawkes for her skill, and for finding more leads on her quest!”

Coffee is an excellent idea, and of course there will be alcohol for the private evenings. There are days when tea will not suffice after a very long evening and coffee must be had if one is to move beyond utter lethargy.

Hmm. I am reasonable at cooking, but when I look for staff perhaps I will have to find someone who is capable of making the sorts of biscuits and other such things people are fond of having with their tea and coffee, and we will need food for the private evenings… Thank you for reminding me.

Strangers, of course, will pay the inflated Bazaar prices and make up for it.” The last he says with a sharp smile, lacking any real fondness for the cream of society who spend their time loitering in fashionable shops to be Seen.

A laugh. Which causes them to grasp there side as they had forgotten briefly about their ribs. If only they had known that Frank could move so fast…Really it -was- foolish to try to fight them. Still there was a slight pride that the box was still theirs. It takes a moment to regain composure. “I will do my best to be more sociable so not to risk becoming a stranger then!” Tea is one of the few pleasures Cassius frequently takes, but with work being as it is, it hasn’t been daily. This must be remedied.

He is more than familiar with all types of wounds and watches their reaction when they laugh. “I carry the tincture with me, if you would like some to ease the pain of…” He looks at them again, head cocked, a slight frown. “A few broken ribs.”

He reaches into one of the innumerable pockets hidden in his clothing and produces a small flask with the F.F. Gebrandt logo stamped on it.

“Yes.” Gladly they accept the gift. “I usually prefer partaking peach brandy. I find that this” takes the lid off and measures. “causes me stranger than usual dreams, even with the correct dosage. But this shall make things much more agreeable. I am in your debt~” Leans their head back and tosses the dose down and then a quick swig of tea. Awful stuff but it works. “Many thanks.” as they clear the hoarseness and hand the flask back.

He tucks it back into his pocket, to be refilled later. “One never knows what may happen. I try to be prepared, particularly as I seem to spend too much of my time with poorly trained assassins chasing after me.”

He smiles a little wryly. “I wonder if I will gain the reputation of being the impromptu doctor amongst my friends, as I also carry bandages and a wound salve I developed… Though when it comes to stitchery, my companion is more skilled in that than I am.”

“It is always good to be prepared. I must start carrying my own supply with me…And get more pockets.” A laugh as they can feel the pain easing. “I had Jasper & Frank-do you know of them?-come to me for a conversation. …I did not know that Clay Men could move so fast.” The tea is now gone sadly, so they rest the cup on their knee. “Many thanks again.” And curiously. “Your companion?”

                    • September 7, 2010 at 1:14 am

“Oh, yes. We’ve conversed. I’ve also hauled Jasper back to the Bazaar when he’s wandered off. Very difficult to catch.”

Glancing around the room and noting them largely alone in it for the moment, he fetches the tea service and refills their cup and places the cream and sugar within easy reach.

“My companion. Sevashke [seh-VAHSH-kay]. We have been largely inseparable since childhood, though I’ve no idea where he’s been this evening. Too busy to come hunting goat demons with me, /or/ go socializing, ridiculous man.”

[he is @myowndamnname and if we continue this, we should probably start a new thread at the bottom since this one is getting shoved off to the side]

[Okay kids — time for me to begin to shut down for the night. You needn’t stop playing though! Have fun, just pretend Merri is off doing something else for a bit. Good night!]

[Well sadly my androgynous detective and me are off until later. I have been requested by a friend to “come save my life from boredom!” so I have to catch an early bus to go play Warhammer lol BUT I will be back :)

If people don’t have me on Twitter feel free to add ‘Lady_Noremon’ or just look up ‘L.S. Cassius’ on teh Facebook.

Thank-you again for being fantastic! :D]

[back -far- later than expected D: Buses were silly late both ways and am just getting home now :( New thread as WP has problems with threading and smushing]

Thankfully pulls the tea over. “I am very much in debt to you this evening Mr. Morgan! How will I ever go about repaying you?” Cassius like to repay their favours, even those from friends. Too easily can something simple be brought-up later. They lean back farther, stretching their legs out and crossing their ankles.

“I have never been, but goat hunting sounds like something not to be missed. Maybe I will meet this ‘ridiculous’ gentleman sometime at a future event?” A bright smile.
